Thomas (Tom) A. Dunn

SALEM, Ohio — Thomas (Tom) A. Dunn, age 76, of Salem, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord and Saviour at 8:50 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at his home, with his wife by his side after a six-month battle with lung cancer.

Tom was the only child of the late Harry A. and Donna (Peterson) Dunn, born Sept. 10, 1937, in Greenville.

A 1955 graduate of Conneaut Lake High School, he resided in Pennsylvania until moving to Salem in 1985.

Tom was an over-the-road driver for Halls Motor Freight, Eazor Express, Cooper-Jarret Transport, and retired from MMS Trucking of Springfield, Ohio, on Dec. 1, 2011.

He was a member of the National American Legion, a former Teamster, and he served in the U.S. Army.

Tom was a longtime member of Harvest Baptist Church in Lisbon, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Joy) Adams Dunn, whom he married Sept. 17, 1985; a son, Michael A. Dunn and wife, Monica, of Conyers, Ga.; a daughter, Deborah A. Ross and husband, Dan, of Los Gatos, Calif.; stepsons, Michael Daniel and wife, Kelly, of Blooming Grove, and Mark Daniel and wife, Diana, of Salem; a stepdaughter, Luanne Sweely and her husband, Mivan, of Sebring, Ohio; two grandsons; two stepgranddaughters; a stepgrandson; and two stepgreat-grandsons.

Tom was a kind gentleman who loved everyone he met and was especially close to his church family. The family would like to thank the Alliance Visiting Nurses/Hospice for their tender loving care during his illness, and to his many friends for all they did for him and his spouse during this difficult time. A warm thank you to Dr. Simmons and nurse, Emily, for their wonderful care.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Harvest Baptist Church, 5501 State Route 45, Lisbon, Ohio, five miles south of Salem, with the Revs. Ronald Laughlin and Doug Demar officiating. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery with military honors by the Salem Honor Guard.

Arrangements were handled by Stark Memorial Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alliance Visiting Nurses/Hospice, 885 S. Sawburg Road, Suite 106, Alliance, Ohio 44601; or Harvest Baptist Church, P. O. Box 723, Salem, Ohio 44460.
