MERCER — Dorothy M. Cook, 84, of Coolspring Township, Mercer, passed away at 12:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at the Avalon Springs Nursing Center, Mercer, where she had been a resident.

She was born in Pittsburgh on Sept. 8, 1928, a daughter of the late Elmer Jacob and Charlotte Rockhill Sindlinger. On July 24, 1941, she married George E. Cook, who preceded her in death Jan. 29, 1988.

Dorothy had been employed at the former Meadville City Hospital, now known as Meadville Medical Center, in the nursing field and had retired after 35 years of service.

She was a member of Sheakleyville United Methodist Church.

Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and playing the piano.

She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Heckman and her husband, Norman, of Hadley; three sons, David G. Cook and his wife, Linda, of Mercer, Edward E. Cook and his wife, Sherry, of Fayette, Ohio, and Richard B. Cook of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Elmer E. Sindlinger of Hadley; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Marjorie J. Henry.

Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 3223 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at funeral home, with the Rev. Timothy Bowser, pastor of  Sheakleyville United Methodist Church, officiating.

The committal service and interment will follow in Hadley Cemetery.
