Ray L. Beuchat

GUYS MILLS — Ray L. Beuchat, 95, a life-long resident of Guys Mills, died at home surrounded by his family and friends on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.

He was born in Randolph Township on Sept. 8, 1918, a son of Leon E. and Dora V. Schenberg Beuchat. He married Ella Jayne Fitzgerald on Nov. 29, 1941, and she survives.

He was a 1936 graduate of Randolph High School, worked for the former American Viscose and Westinghouse in the 1940s, worked as a dairy farmer in Randolph Township, drove a school bus for the Randolph-East Mead Schools for 17 years and worked in the maintenance department at Allegheny College for 18 years and retired as the head groundskeeper of the Robertson Athletic Field.

Ray served on the Randolph Township Board of Elections in his early years. He received a citation as a 50-year consecutive voter by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1994 and continued to vote regularly thereafter. He served two terms as Randolph Township supervisor in the 1950s and 1960s. He continued his community involvement by being a state fire warden for 69 years.

He was a member of St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church and he also attended First Christian Church. He enjoyed trapping, hunting, gardening and especially spending time with his family and neighbors. His favorite sports were baseball and football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Jayne, of 72 years, include a daughter, Judy L. Beuchat of Greenville; a son, Dr. Larry R. Beuchat of Griffin, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William J. Beuchat; and three sisters, Audrey Klins, Joanne Dellamedaglia and Mary Jacobs.

Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Marshall Lillie, chaplain of Hospice of Crawford County, and Father Daniel Prez, pastor of St. Hippolyte Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville.

The family suggests memorials be made to Randolph Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 25, Guys Mills, Pa. 16327; or Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
