ST. CATHARINES, Ontario —
Dennis Luther Manus, 59, passed away suddenly on March 26, 2014.
Dennis, a longtime resident of St. Catharines, Ontario, was born to the late Mary Jean Arlene Manus on Jan. 17, 1955, in Meadville. He graduated from Meadville Area High School and attended Gannon College. Dennis moved to Canada about 30 years ago and shortly thereafter took a job with the Lincoln County Board of Education where he worked until his passing.
Dennis was an avid sports fan, even trying out for the Kansas City Royals when he was 18. He enjoyed baseball, basketball, football and had a huge passion for playing pool. He also enjoyed frequenting area establishments such as The Mansion House, where he would listen to local bands and catch up with friends. He was a big Motown music fan and would sing backup on occasion for a local band in the St. Catharines area. Dennis made friends everywhere he went as evidenced by the outpouring of love and memories being shared.
In addition to his mother, he is predeceased by a brother, Marlon Matthews.
Dennis is survived by a daughter, Crystal; another daughter, Emily Caler, her husband, Sterling, and their children, Dakota, Maddox and Olivia, of Charleston, S.C.; six brothers, Larry Matthews of Miami, Fla., Curtis Matthews of Meadville, Vincent (Peddy) Manus and wife, Connie, of Bullhead City, Ariz., Paul (Dexter) Manus of Panama, Cary (Pete) Manus and wife, Shannon, of Camden Del., and Sheldon Michael Manus of Mesa, Ariz.; three sisters, Carol Wood of Ravenna Ohio, Maureen Matthews of Meadville and Sharon Matthews of Alabama; his Uncle Luther (Sonny) Manus of Erie; his Aunt Harriet Manning of Denver, Colo.; his Manning cousins who were like brothers and sisters to him, Tony, Wade, JayJay and Jill; a host of nieces of nephews; his work family at Eden High; and countless friends who were like extended family.
There will be a memorial service and celebration of life gathering in Meadville in memory of Dennis this summer. Details will be made available in the near future.
