MEADVILLE — Josephine Taormina, 89, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

She was born July 7, 1923, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Thomas and Carmelina Macaluso. She married Paul Taormina on Nov. 27, 1947. He preceded her in death in March 1998.

She was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church. Josephine, along with her husband, Paul, owned a number of restaurants during their working years. They owned the Grandview Inn, now known as Hunter’s Inn, until their retirement in 1977.

Josephine was well known for her cooking skills and her famous pizza. The Grandview Inn was a great social gathering place after local sporting events for customers to enjoy Josephine’s delicious food.

She loved her three sons and her grandchildren and was happiest when she was cooking for them or reading to them.

All six grandchildren were happy to spend the day at Grandma’s house and enjoy three wonderful meals at her home.

Another specialty of hers was the cannoli that she made for Christmas. Although her daughters-in-law tried to duplicate her recipe, none of them could even come close to making the cannolis the way that Mom did.

She is survived by her three sons, Sam Taormina and his wife, Pat, Paul Taormina and his wife, Mary, and Joe Taormina and his wife, Kathy, all of Meadville; six grandchildren, Brian Taormina, Chandra Chappell, Linda Gordon, Lisa Taormina, Kaitlyn Taormina and Matt Taormina,; three great-grandchildren, Ariana Chappell, Eva Gordon and Ella Gordon; a brother, James Macaluso; and two sisters, Theresa Galiano and Mary Moss.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ross Macaluso; and a great-granddaughter, Makayla Chappell.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Agatha Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, with Father Matthew Kujawinski as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Agatha Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Agatha Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335; or to VNA Alliance of Crawford County, 704 N. Main St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
