Alex was one of the founding members of the Meadville Field Archery Club, serving as treasurer. In his younger years, he participated in amateur boxing in the area. He passed his love of hunting and fishing to countless people over the years, giving them instructions in archery techniques, hunting tips and teaching them to tie flies for fishing.

Alex enjoyed wood working and feeding wild animals, both big and small, at his hunting camp. He will be remembered for his humor, quick wit, warm caring need to help people and flirting with the ladies. He was proud of his Blackfoot Indian and Irish heritage. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 and the 3:00 McDonald’s gang.

Alex leaves behind two daughters, Nancy DeRoss of Meadville and Patti Garvin Drake of Geneva; three grandsons, William Garvin Jr. of Geneva, Lance Garvin of Conneaut Lake and his caregiver and companion, Jeff DeRoss of Meadville; and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Amanda Garvin. He also leaves behind many friends that he has touched over the years.
