MEADVILLE — Kenneth V. Goodale, 96, of Meadville passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 24, 2013, at the home of his daughter in Conneaut Lake, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Feb. 23, 1917, in Conneaut, Ohio, and was a son of Raymond and Alice Ward Goodale.

He was a corpsman in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II and also served during the Korean War. He was known to his friends as Ken “Doc” Goodale.

Mr. Goodale was employed as a housing inspector in the District of Columbia, retiring in 1979. It was after his retirement that he began his hobby of TV repairs by opening up his own TV repair shop.

Mr. Goodale loved to golf, socialize and dance. He met his wife, Betty Lou Goodale, at the roller rink in Conneaut, and they married Jan. 29, 1939. They spent Friday nights at the Elks. Betty would play poker, and Ken would dance with the women. They spent all their time having fun and being with their friends.

Survivors include his son, Rockford (Sheila) Goodale of Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters, Anita (Robert) Sowell of Cochranton and Gretchen (Jeff) Puffer of Conneaut Lake; seven grandchildren, Troy Goodale (Elizabeth), Vicki (Todd) Thurman, Paul (Paige) Goodale, Michele (Dean) Bramell, Brandi Biase, Mindy Sowell (fiancé, Jeff), and Jeffrey S. Puffer; and six great-grandchildren, Bryce and Calie Biase, Jacob and Jared Bramell, and Griffin and Grayson Goodale; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and more distant relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 73 years, Betty Lou Benson Goodale in 2012; his sister, Gertrude Maukonen; and his brother, Nelson Goodale.

Funeral service will be at noon Saturday at Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, with the Rev. Chris Fujii officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday morning from 11 until the time of the service at noon.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kan. 66675; or to the Disabled American Veteran, P.O. Box 14031, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301, Attn.: Gift Processing. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
