Mahlon S. Byler of 408 Folk Road, Fredonia (Delaware Township), died at his residence at 12:34 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, following a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Mahlon was born on Aug. 21, 1940, in Dover, Del., a son of the late Simon W. and Sarah (Bender) Byler.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, the former Fannie A. (Byler) Byler; seven sons, Sylvan, married to Emma Lena Nissley, of Greenville, William, married to Mattie Hershberger, of Clare, Mich., Ervin, married to Lydia Miller, of Malone, N.Y., Lester, married to Esther Yoder, of Seymour, Iowa, Ivan, married to Rhoda Hershberger, of Fredonia, Rudy, married to Rebecca Nissley, of Fredonia, and Mahlon Jr., married to Rachel Nissley, of Fredonia; six daughters, Sadie, married to Raymond Hershberger, of Clare, Ada, married to Rudy Miller, of Greenville, Gertie, married to Melvin Troyer, of Fredonia, Mary Ann, married to James Miller, of Clare, Elvesta, married to David Schwartz, of Springboro, and Esther at home. He is also survived by two sisters and a brother of Dover, Del; 99 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren.
Mahlon was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; two brothers; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends and family may call at the family home, located at 408 Folk road, Fredonia, all day today.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at the Ivan Byler residence, 400 Folk Road, Fredonia, with Allen N. Byler officiating. Pall bearers will be Robert Yoder, Joe Mullet Jr., Jerry Beachy and Levi Yoder.
Interment will be at Fairview Amish Cemetery, Fairview Township.
The family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 169 Second St., Fredonia.
