Richard Robert (Bob) Kurinko

SEBRING, Fla. — Richard Robert (Bob) Kurinko, 72, of Sebring, Fla., and formerly of Meadville, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013.

He was born Nov. 20, 1941, in Warren, Ohio, the son of Richard Nick Kurinko and Hazel Harriet Slater Kurinko.

He graduated from Meadville High School in 1959.

He married his first wife, Judy Boyer, after high school. He entered the U.S. Army and served in Italy in Army Security. After his discharge, he lived in California and worked for Bell Telephone, before moving back to Meadville. He was employed by Talon Inc., Meadville Malleable and GTI Components before entering the State Police Academy. He was enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police on Jan. 4, 1968, and retired on Jan. 3, 1992. He worked in traffic patrol, Regional Narcotics Strike Force, DEA and FBI surveillance, and was a criminal investigator. He also served as a liaison to the Secret Service. He was mainly located in Troop E, Meadville barracks. After retirement he was employed at Allegheny College Security.

He married his second wife, Betty Ray Kurinko, in 1979. He retired to Sebring in 2008, where he resided with his daughter and her family.

Bob was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, PSP Retiree Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, AMVETS, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Loyal Order of Moose, and was a Freemason. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Nick and Hazel; his wife, Betty C. Kurinko; a stepson, Christopher Wallis; and a sister, Dixie L. Fravert.

He is survived by four children, Richard O. Kurinko and his partner, Linda, of Conneaut Lake, Susan D. Kurinko of Cave Creek, Ariz., Cindy Kurinko of Meadville, and Sherri Kurinko-Griffin and her husband, Jim, of Sebring; two stepsons, Stephen Wallis of Los Angeles, Calif., and Timothy Wallis of Garland, Texas; his siblings, Dan Kurinko of Aztec, N.M., Shirley Eckhardt of Mesa, Ariz., Carol Livolsi and her husband, Mike, of Gilbert, Ariz., and Diana Bailey and her husband, Scott, of Bloomfield, N.M.; a brother-in-law, Wray Fravert of Louisville, Ky.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob enjoyed life. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed skiing, fishing and traveling. He loved to cook and especially loved the camaraderie of friends.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville, where the funeral will follow at 4 p.m., with the Rev. David Coddington, pastor of United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills, officiating.

Military honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.

Memorials may be made to the Pennsylvania State Troopers Association, 3625 Vartan Way, Harrisburg, Pa. 17110; or to a local Veterans of Foreign Wars post of the donor’s choice.
