Harry Clinton Shoemaker Jr.

COCHRANTON — Harry Clinton Shoemaker Jr. of U.S. Highway 19, Cochranton (Greenwood Township), passed away at 12:55 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at his residence.

He was born in New Kensington on April 10, 1936, a son of the late Harry and Marie Miller Shoemaker Sr. On Oct. 7, 1961, he married the former Faye Collins who survives.

He had been employed as a welder with the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. He had served with the U.S. Army as a military police officer during the Korean Conflict, having served 13 months in Korea.

He was a member of the Allida Smith Wesleyan Methodist Church, Meadville. Harry was a life member of the North American Hunting and Fishing Clubs and a life member of Summit Fire Department, having served as vice president and an emergency medical technician for the ambulance service.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by two daughters, Gleda Griffiths of Cochranton, and Darla Daniels and her husband, Rick, of Harmonsburg; a son, David Shoemaker and his wife, Sherry, of Mifflinburg; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Habecker and her husband, T. Sgt. Andrew Habecker, serving at Langley Air Force Base, Denae Dixon and her husband, Joshua, of Oklahoma, David Shoemaker and his wife, Nikki, of Milmont, Daryl Griffiths and his wife, Lindsay, of Atlantic, Jason Shoemaker of Mifflinburg, Kaylene Griffiths of Cochranton and Rebecca Shoemaker of Mifflinburg; a sister, Dorthy Shoemaker of Stoneboro; great-grandsons, David Cole and Jacob Wesley Shoemaker and Isaac Griffiths and Jonathan Dixon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandson, Cameron Habecker; and a great-granddaughter, Carolyn Rae Griffiths.

The family wishes to thank Southern Care Hospice, especially Becky, for the excellent care provided.

Friends may call at Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 3223 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville, on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and are invited to share memories and condolences online at robertsnyderfuneralhome.com.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. D.A. Kaufman and Rev. William Ray Peak officiating. The interment with military honors accorded by Meadville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.

The family has suggested that memorial tributes may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 1245 Park Ave., Meadville, Pa. 16335; or to the Allida Smith Wesleyan Methodist Church, 15228 S. Mosiertown Road, Meadville, Pa. 16335.
