BARTLETT, Tenn. —
Richard Lane Darby Sr. of Bartlett, Tenn., entered heaven on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014. “Dick” died peacefully in his home with his beloved wife of 52 years, Dorothea Copen Darby, and their children by his side. Dick and Dorothea are former longtime Meadville residents.
He was born Nov. 15, 1939, in Erie, to Howard and Lillian Darby. He was a 1957 graduate of McDowell High School and a 1962 graduate of Gannon University.
Dick and Dorothea married in June 1961 and had children, Richard Darby Jr. (Susan) of Atlanta, Ga., Jeffrey Darby (Jeanne) of Mandeville, La., and Debbie Darby Kennedy (Mark) of Batesville, Ark.
Dick was a past worshipful master of Crawford Masonic Lodge 234. Dick was a member of Bartlett United Methodist Church and served on the board of Bartlett Performing Arts and Conference Center. Among Dick’s greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild. A devoted brother-in-law to Kenneth Copen (Helen) of Paragould, Ark., and Donald Copen of Bartlett, and brother to Sally McVicker of New Castle, Dick will be missed for his humor, caring nature and quick wit.
