COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. —
Phyllis Greer, 87, of Mount Saint Francis Nursing Center, 7550 Assisi Heights, Colorado Springs, Colo., died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013.
Phyllis Jean Dicks was born in New Wilmington on Aug. 11, 1926, to Richard D. Dicks and Mary Byler Dicks. She married Wilbert Sheldon Greer of Cochranton on May 15, 1948. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1989.
Phyllis graduated from Union High School, New Castle, and the Buhl Hospital School of Nursing in Sharon. She worked as an registered nurse at Buhl Hospital, followed by many years at Meadville Medical Center, where she worked the night shift, mostly in the geriatric unit.
Phyllis enjoyed dogs, gardening, cooking, travel and photography. She was an active member of the Widows or Widowers social support group in Colorado Springs and served for several years as its president.
Survivors include a brother, Richard Dicks and wife, Carol, of Alexandria, Ohio; a sister, Barbara Hart and husband, Lewis, of Latrobe; four children, Joyce Love and husband, Mark, of Tannersville, Jeff Greer and wife, SanDee, of Slidell, La., Joel Greer and wife, Esme, of Katy, Texas, and Julie Greer of Colorado Springs. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, John Greer of Fort Collins, Colo.; and two sisters, Marjorie Facko of Hermitage and Rosemary Verrelli of Port Orange, Fla.
Phyllis has requested that there be no funeral or memorial service, but that her remains be interred next to her husband, Sheldon, in Cochranton Cemetery.
