John Vincent Hecker, age 65, of Erie, passed away on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 at his home.
He was born in Meadville on Aug. 9, 1948, a son of the late Bruce and Helen Hecker.
John served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1973 and was a swift boat operator in Vietnam. He recently retired from Giant Eagle, Erie, after 17 years of employment.
He enjoyed anything to do with trains, watching westerns, reading, especially author Louis L’Amour, and was a history buff.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Frances Vatter Hecker; two sons, Jack V. Hecker (Jillanne) of Geneva, Ohio and James A. Hecker (Erin) of Burghill, Ohio; two brothers, Bruce Hecker of Conneautville and Walter Harmon of McKean; two grandchildren, Connor and Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Bill and Jack; and two sisters, Gladys Poloskey and Mary Kosan.
Family and friends will be received at the Dusckas Funeral Home Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road, Erie, on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the memorial service at noon. A full military service by the VFW Color Guard, Post #2006, will follow at Saegertown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the family, in care of the funeral home.
