Joseph G. Krupski

SAEGERTOWN — Joseph G. Krupski, 89, of 18874 Broadford Road, Saegertown, passed away at home on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Joseph was born in Ambridge on March 12, 1924, a son of the late Stanley and Pauline Szmyd Krupski. On Jan. 28, 1950, Joseph married Winifred M. Theuret; she survives.

He was a founding member of St. Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church, Saegertown.

In 1986 Joseph retired from Channellock Inc., where he had been employed as a machinist. A veteran of World War II, Joseph entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 27, 1943, where he served his country with the 1150th Base Unit, until his honorable discharge on Nov. 17, 1945. He was awarded the American Theater Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. Although Joseph quit school to enter the service, he was very proud to have been awarded his high school diploma at the age of 82.

A former member of the Polish National Alliance and of Saegertown Sportsman Club, Joseph was a member of Saegertown American Legion Post 205, where he served as chaplain for many years. Joseph was a talented, self-taught harmonica player. His other hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and wood working. He had a deep love for all his family, especially his grandchildren and we will miss him.

In addition to his wife, Winifred, of 63 years, Joseph is survived by three daughters, Elaine M. Laniewicz and her husband, Richard, Marlene S. Yarnall and her husband, John, and Jo-Ann Jaskiewicz and her husband, Michael, all of Erie; four grandchildren, Dr. Natalie Laniewicz and her husband, John McGeary, of Fort Worth, Texas, Michelle Schreckengost and her husband, Bill, of Erie, Joseph G. Yarnall of Wilmington, N.C., and Lauren Yarnall and her fiancé, Kurt Orton of Erie; five great-grandchildren, Kaylah and Iain McGeary, Garrett Laniewicz, Grace Schreckengost, Rylee Orton and baby McGeary, who is due to be born in March 2014; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Zalewsky; and four brothers, William, John, Walter and Kaiser Krupski.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a scripture service will be held at 5 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church, Renner Avenue, Saegertown, with Father David Poulson, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment with full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will take place in St. Agatha Cemetery, West Mead Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saegertown Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 164, or St. Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church, Renner Avenue, or American Legion Post 205, 755 South St., all of Saegertown, Pa. 16433; or Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
