Dale Keith Richmond

LINESVILLE — Dale Keith Richmond, 78, of Dicksonburg Road, Linesville, died Wednesday April 24, 2013, at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born March 11, 1935, in Harmonsburg, to the late OC (Bud) Richmond Jr. and Margaret Bright Richmond. He married Carol Mead in 1955; she survives.

He was a graduate of Conneautville High School, spending his first eight years of education in a one-room school in Dicksonburg. He was the fourth generation owner and operator of the Richmond Dairy Farm, established in 1910. It is now operated by the fifth and sixth generations. That being his first love and priority, he also held many other positions throughout his working career, including driving milk truck for Joe Arendash and Vernon Fry, worked as road crew for Summerhill Township, drove livestock for Eugene Weiss, drove school bus for Ralph Merry, Wallace Hyde, and then for Laidlaw from 1962 to 2006.

At one time Dale was considered to be the bus driver with the longest number of years serving in Pennsylvania. He was recognized on three separate occasions in Harrisburg for school bus safety. He also worked as justice of the peace for Summerhill Township. Dale could be seen on Friday nights at the schools working as a security guard and keeping things safe for the kids. He worked for Woodring Detective Agency. In 2009 he retired as Summerhill Township tax collector after 16 years.

Dale was a charter member of Summerhill Volunteer Fire Department. He belonged to Erie Crawford State Police Company 64 as secretary and captain. He was a founding member of Crawford County Civil Air Patrol, he was a member of Milk Marketing Inc., he enjoyed the art of making maple syrup and loved taking friends and neighbors on tours of the farm in his golf cart.

He attended Lakeland Senior Center. In recent years Dale enjoyed bird watching and squirrel watching. For years Dale would get up very early to plow snow. He would make sure that all the neighbors’ driveways were plowed, too, so that the kids would be able to get to the bus. He also hosted the annual Richmond Pig Roast for all his friends and neighbors to enjoy for 17 years. He will be missed by all.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Dale is survived by four daughters, Cathy and Charlie Vorisek of Linesville, Diane and Sam Mook of Conneautville, Cindy and Marty McCoy of Harmonsburg, and Dixie and Mike of Dicksonburg; a sister, Shirley McCoy; 10 grandchildren, Ike and Nancy Vorisek, Carleen and Justin Dobrowolsky, Geoff and Anna Vorisek, Shanna and Matt Meyers, Tonya Vorisek, Erin and Zack Samuels, Stacey and Chad Bilich, Duane Agnew and Jess, Rena and Wayne Wollmann, and Dale McCoy; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and his wife, Martha Richmond, and Paul and his wife, Brenda Richmond; an uncle, Charlie Richmond; a brother-in-law, Raymond McCoy; and a cousin, George Campbell.

Friends may call today from 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at White-Cool Funeral Home, 1405 Main St., Conneautville.

The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m., with retired United Methodist Pastor Joe Rial officiating.

Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
