Thomas A. Shearer

HARTSTOWN — Thomas A. Shearer, 86, of 6180 Atlantic Lake Road, Hartstown, died Friday, July 11, 2014, at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born in East Fallowfield Township on Aug. 20, 1927, a son of the late Warren S. Shearer and Pearl Arthurs Shearer. He married Annabelle Mariacher on Sept. 26, 1953; she survives.

He was a 1945 graduate of East Fallowfield High School and a veteran of World War II, serving as a U.S. Army sergeant in South Korean occupation from 1946 until 1947. He enjoyed a 50-year career as a builder, including several churches, post offices, houses and farm buildings.

In the 1970 and ’80s he traveled to Central and South America, Africa, and made several trips to Haiti on short-term missions trip for building projects for missionaries.

He was a 70-year member of Fallowfield United Methodist Church, and a current member of the missions committee. He was a member of the school board for 11 years and the first chairman of the newly formed Conneaut School District. He is past NG of Fallowfield Lodge 1128 IOOF, and the chairman of the McMichael Cemetery Association. He enjoyed rural living on the land of his birth.

Survivors include his wife, Annabelle, of 60 years; two daughters, Pamela Walters of Texas, and Karen Ellison and her husband, Arthur, of Knoxville, Tenn.; a son, Dale Shearer and his wife, Linda, of Hartstown; four grandchildren, Matthew Walters, Rebekah, Sarah and Amanda Shearer; three stepgrandchildren, Chad, Catherine and Michael Ellison; a sister, Luella McCurdy Mallery, who is 100 years old, of Youngsville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois McCurdy Baker; a nephew, William Baker; and a son-in-law, Lawrence Walters.  

Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Fallowfield United Methodist Church, 3993 Leach Road, Atlantic. Additional calling hour will be Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. David A. Bell Sr., pastor of the church, officiating.

Burial with full military honors provided by the Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will be in McMichael Cemetery, East Fallowfield Township.

Memorial donations may be made to the Fallowfield United Methodist Missions Fund, 3993 Leach Road, Atlantic, Pa. 16111.

Arrangements under the direction of Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
