Calvin Donald Frawley

SPRINGBORO — Calvin Donald Frawley, 89, of Springboro, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 14, 1925, and raised in North Olmstead, Ohio, son of the late Arthur and Della (MacRae) Frawley.

After graduating from North Olmstead High School in 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served in the South Pacific Theatre in World War II. Thanks to the Lord he survived the invasions of Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa and the occupation duty in Nagasaki, Japan. On Sept. 7, 1946, he married Georgeanne Fritz Curry. After several years working in his hometown he dreamed of living on a farm and in 1962 moved to Spring Township, Pa., God’s country, where his children were raised. He worked at Union Carbide and Elkem Metals in Ashtabula, Ohio, retiring in 1983.

Most of all, he enjoyed gardening, his farm animals and chopping wood. Even more, he enjoyed writing several Christian-based short story books and giving them to friends and family. He loved gospel music, old hymns and listening to barber shop singing.

He attended Albion Assembly of God Church and was a member of the Albion Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2341 and the 2nd Marine Division Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Frawley; and a brother, Howard Frawley.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 68 years, Georgeanne (Curry) Frawley, whom he married on Sept. 7, 1946, three sons, Peter Frawley and his wife, Therese, Patrick Frawley and his wife, Susan, and Darren Frawley and his wife, Jane, all of Springboro; four daughters, Sydney Hess of Sandusky, Ohio, Colleen Miller and her husband, Larry, of Springboro, Janet Smock and her husband, Calvin, of Fredonia, and Lisa Sundback and her husband, John, of Springboro; two brothers, Daniel Frawley of Wellington, Ohio, and Jay Frawley and his wife, Jean, of Columbia Station, Ohio. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Mattera Funeral Home, 188 E. State St., Albion, on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and may attend funeral services there on Thursday at 11 a.m. Allan Thorpe officiating.
