C. Kent Armstrong

GUYS MILLS — C. Kent Armstrong, 78, of Dingman Road, Guys Mills, went to be with Jesus on Friday evening, July 19, 2013, at the Titusville Hospital after a 10-year struggle with Alzheimer’s dementia.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Ramona Fairman Armstrong; three sons, Terry Armstrong, Rodney Armstrong and his wife, Lorraine, and Dale Armstrong and his wife, Teri; grandchildren, Ben Armstrong and his wife, Amy, Zack Armstrong, Ethan Armstrong, Ian Armstrong, Kirsten Armstrong and Jesse Armstrong; three great-granddaughters, Lena, Addelyne and Kaylin Armstrong; his brother, Larry Armstrong and his wife, Nancy, of Guys Mills; and a sister, Bonnie Montgomery of Athens, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Donna Armstrong, and a brother, Dr. Brian Armstrong.

In his earlier years, Kent was an athlete and a farmer. He started his photography career working for The Meadville Tribune and then the Titusville Herald as a news photographer. In 1965, along with his wife, he opened Armstrong Studio in Titusville. Until 1995, he photographed many of Titusville’s children and brides, but his greatest love was wildlife photography. In 1972, he received recognition from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association for his picture series of bald eagles.

He gave many slideshows of his photography jaunts including his trip to Canada to photograph wolves. Along with outdoor photography, fishing in Canada was one of his many loves, and he enjoyed taking Boy Scout groups on Canadian fishing trips. He and his outdoor traveling companion, Pastor Bruce Ladebu of Conneaut Lake, realized their dream when the opening of Amaruq Outdoor Survival Center, with its rope course and climbing wall, became a reality.

With his portable saw mill hooked to the back of his blue suburban, he traveled wherever someone had logs to saw until he could no longer remember how to get home. He spent his remaining years in Sarasota, Fla., during the winter and summers at his home in Guys Mills.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Victory Family Worship Center, 10670 Highway 18, Conneaut Lake, with Pastor Dale Armstrong, of Church of the Word officiating.

In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Please take a moment to share a memory or condolence with the family on Kent’s Book of Memories online at roofnercollinswarrenfh.com.

Arrangements are in the care of Willis L. Arnold Funeral Home, 33353 N. Main St., Townville, a branch firm of Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc, 544 Chestnut St., Meadville.
