Barry D. Corbran

VENANGO — Barry D. Corbran, 54, of Venango, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 19, 2013, after battling esophageal cancer for 20 months.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1958, in Jamestown, N.Y., to H. Thomas Corbran and the late Joyce Wallace Matties. He married Malinda L. Malone on June 2, 1984, and she went home to her Lord on May 26, 2004. He then married Susan Shafer Kochenash on April 9, 2005; she survives.

Barry had been working for Seaway Window Inc. in Erie for three and a half years as a sales consultant. Previously, he worked off-and-on with his own home improvement business and several lumber companies, including Bradco-Wickes/Wickes Lumber in Saegertown.

Barry was known to many as a man of integrity, a man of God. He was always kind to others and treated them with unconditional love.

Even though he had cancer, he continued to encourage others, including the staff at the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute. He learned to trust God early on through the death of his first wife and experiencing a house fire in 2009. He taught others to love God no matter what and not to give up on Him.

He would often say that each day is a clean slate — yesterday is gone, how will you spend today to honor God? He says we need to put our faith and trust in Him 24/7. We are praising God that Barry is finally home free from pain and cancer.

Barry was active at his church, New Beginnings Church of God in Meadville, as a life group leader, pre-teen teacher, and in the Developing Pastors Program. Prior to 2011, he was active at First Christian Church as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder.

He enjoyed all Pittsburgh sport teams, hunting, golf, traveling, quiet times with God, and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Susan, and his father, Thomas, of Westfield, N.Y., Barry is survived by his stepmom, Rose Corbran; three daughters, Alicia Belovarac and her husband, Joel, Heather Corbran and Jennifer Corbran; three stepchildren, Amy Rector and her husband, Larry, Michael Kochenash and his wife, Cara, and Sarah Fraker and her husband, Justin; four grandchildren, Natalie, Alyssa, Lauren and Noah Rector; a brother, Thomas Corbran; a sister, Debra Unell; and several step and half brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Samuel’s Kids, an orphanage in Uganda which has been supported by the Corbrans for the past two and a half years. The children of the orphanage have many financial needs including funds to obtain bedding with so many of them having little or none, sleeping on the bare floor. Visit the secure website for information on how to donate: samuelskids.org/home/. God wants us to help others in need. Thanks.

Friends may call at Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Celebration of Life services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at New Beginnings Church in Meadville. The Rev. Temple Jarrell, a pastor of the church, will officiate.

Private committal and burial in Venango Cemetery will be attended prior to the celebration service by family and friends. Isaiah 40:31 and Phillipians 4:13. To send condolences, please visit vanmatrefuneralhome.com.
