Frank Buyan Jr., 97, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, formerly of Hadley, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.
He was born in Hendersonville, March 18, 1916, a son of Frank and Veronica Belichich Buyan. He married Catherine F. Stofac on April 13, 1940; she preceded him in death Feb. 7, 1975. He subsequently married Catherine T. Horvat on April 7, 1976; she preceded him in death in December 2006.
Frank attended Cannonsburg schools. He served as a U.S. Navy seaman first class during World War II, with two years in New Guinea in the Pacific, and from 1943 to 1945 he was a vehicle dispatcher. He retired as a chief inspector from Greenville Tube with 21 years service. He formerly was employed as a coal miner, construction worker and dairy farmer.
He attended St. Michael Church, Greenville.
He was a member of Reynolds Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Croatian Fraternal Union of America, Pittsburgh. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include three sons, Frank Buyan and his wife, Carol, of Yardley, Thomas S. Buyan and his wife, Toni, of Amboy, Wash., and Larry Buyan of Sharpsville; a daughter, Barbara W. Midkiff and her husband, Earl, of Meadville; a brother, Carl Buyan of Eighty Four; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; and several brothers and sisters.
Calling hours will be Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Andrew J. Vana Funeral Home, 102 Church St., Hadley.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Michael Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Christopher Barnes, parochial vicar of St. Michael Church, as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Greenville.
