Theodore W. Parker, 62, of the Soldiers & Sailors Home, Erie, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, following a short illness.
He was born in Greenville on Aug. 20, 1950, a son of Florence M. Peterson Lyda, of Meadville and the late Duane J. Parker.
Mr. Parker attended Reynolds Area High School in Transfer, served in the U.S. Army as a private during the Vietnam War, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, two O/S Bars and Marksman Badge Rifle M14. He worked as a self-employed carpenter, having worked in many states.
He loved to travel all over the U.S., being in the Army and spending time with his family. Mr. Parker enjoyed people, riding motorcycle and had many friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Tammy L. Parker of Jamestown, N.Y., and Tracy L. (Gary) Jock Jr. of Dunkirk, N.Y.; and two brothers, James D. (Susan) Parker and Melvin L. Parker, both of Meadville. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Patrick Parker, Douglas Parker, Tiffany Jock and Brittany Jock; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by an infant sister, Trina Parker.
There will be no visitation observed.
Memorial services will be held from the Sheridan Fire Hall, Main Road, Sheridan, N.Y., on May 10 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Bruce M. Ellis, pastor of Forestville Wesleyan Church, officiating, followed by military services conducted by members of the Dunkirk Joint Veteran’s Council.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Dunkirk High School JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) Program, 75 W. Sixth St., Dunkirk, N.Y. 14048.
