AKRON, Ohio —
Donald R. Shellenberger, 80, of Akron, Ohio, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he was the devoted husband for 55 years of Judith Furry Shellenberger; loving father of Linda Gibson, Donna Kulcsar and Joyce (Scott) Aitken; and proud grandfather of Ryan, Mitchell, Brent, Tyler, Matthew, Myles and Gavin, and great-grandfather of Brent Jr.
Donald was a member of the Masonic Lodge Valley of Akron Chapter, American Legion Post 281 and Shriners International. He loved his country and all Cleveland sports teams. He was born and raised in Conneaut Lake, and moved to Ohio in 1959 where he worked as a machinist for Air Craft Breaking Company, which is now Goodyear Rubber.
Family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Catavolos Funeral Home, 3653 W. Market St., Fairlawn, Ohio, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Lynn Driver will be officiating. Entombment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Donald’s name to Hospice of VNS, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, Ohio 44333; or Interim Hospice for Veterans, 3040 W. Market St., Akron, Ohio 44333.
