HADLEY — Shirley R. Schroer of Perry Highway, Hadley (Sandy Creek Township), passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving family at 9:44 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2014. She was 79.

Shirley was born in Clarks Mills on Sept. 14, 1934, a daughter of the late Ellis and Rose Heckman Ibbs. She was a 1952 graduate of the former Hadley High School. On June 1, 1958, she married Raymond D. Schroer, who survives.

She had been employed by the former G.C. Murphy and Kroger Company of Greenville, Weiss Golden Dawn of Sheakleyville and the Montgomery Wards of Meadville, from which she had retired.

She was a member of Sheakleyville United Methodist Church, the former Mary Jane Rebekah Lodge of Sheakleyville and had been a 50-year member of the New Vernon Grange. Shirley enjoyed reading, spending time with her family and traveling in the convertible with her husband.

In addition to her husband of 55 years, she is survived by a son, Jon Schroer and his fiancée, Vicki Burris, of Middletown, Del.; three daughters, Lori Sindlinger and her husband, Michael, of Hadley, Vicki Mitchell and her husband, Timothy, of Cambridge, Ohio, and Tracie Aitken and her husband, Scott, of Meadville; 13 grandchildren, Joshua Sindlinger and his wife, Crystal, Kayla Post and her husband, Benjamin, Clay Sindlinger and his wife, Bethany, Jason Mitchell and his wife, Denise, TJ Mitchell and his wife, Shannon, Bradley Mitchell and is fiancée, Sarah Tennant, Shawn Mitchell and his fiancée, Kendra Lallathin, Benjamin Aitken and his long-time girlfriend, Alicia Hipwell, Katie Hall and her husband, Matt, Jessie, Keeley, Maggie and Ivy Aitken; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles Ibbs and Ellis Ibbs Jr.; and a sister, Dorothy Peters.

Friends may call at Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 3223 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to share memories and condolences with the family online at

The funeral and committal service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Timothy Bowser, pastor of Sheakleyville United Methodist Church, officiating. The interment will follow at Perry Chapel Cemetery, Perry Township.
