Richard DuMars, 85, of Cochranton, died Friday, April 25, 2014, at Meadville Medical Center.
Born March 4, 1929, in Meadville, he was the son of Merle and Velma Steen DuMars. He married Barbara Smith on Nov. 27, 1951, and she survives.
He was a 1946 graduate of Cochranton High School and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
In his younger years, he was a good athlete and excelled in baseball. Later in life, he enjoyed golfing, but his greatest joy was being with his family and supporting his children and grandchildren in their many activities.
He worked at Morco in Cochranton for 40 years and retired from there as vice president of sales. He was a member of Cochranton United Methodist Church and Cochranton American Legion Post 863 and previously served on Cochranton Borough Council and Cochranton Cemetery Board.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 62 years, include two daughters, Terry Manross and her husband, Gary, of Meadville, and Jody Anderson and her husband, Ray, of Cochranton; four grandchildren, Jessica Babbitt of Cooperstown, Diana Besoiu and her husband, Eric, of Cranberrry, Ryan Anderson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kristen Miller and her husband, John, of Peoria, Ariz.; and five great-grandchildren, Olivia and Emma Besoiu, and Ryleigh, Adalyn and Carsyn Miller.
Friends will be received at Dickson Family Funeral Home Inc., 123 S. Franklin St., Cochranton, on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday from the funeral home, with the Rev. Greg Spencer of Cochranton United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be in Cochranton Cemetery with military honors conducted by Cochranton American Legion.
