Joseph J. Tipping of 3427 Kibbler Road, Atlantic (East Fallowfield Township), passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Butler VNA Hospice. He was 67.
He was born in Pittsburgh on May 2, 1946, a son of the late Frank and Rhoda (Carl) Tipping. On May 27, 1989, he married the former Josephine (Josie) Baird, who survives.
Joe had been employed by the U.S. General Service Administration, having worked at the Federal Building and the Federal Courthouse in Pittsburgh. He retired in May 2008. He proudly served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of Conneaut Lake American Legion Post 587.
He was an avid history buff and had enjoyed participating along with his wife in Civil War reenactments. He loved children and for more than 13 years he would play as Santa Claus at the Monroeville Mall. He also loved animals, both big and small.
In addition to his wife, Josie, of 24 years, at home, he is survived by a daughter, Terry Keeley and her husband, William, of Willoughby, Ohio, and a son, Gerald Lewis and his wife, Megan Dennis, of Meadville; two sisters, Mary Ann Tipping of Pittsburgh, and Jean Stettler and her husband, Dave, of Dallas, Texas; three brothers, James Tipping and his wife, Josephine, of Concord, Ohio, Fran Tipping and his wife, Joy, of Harmony, and Vince Tipping and his wife, Jo Anne, of Turtle Creek; and two grandchildren, Riley Inscoe and Makayla Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kate Gerety; and three grandchildren, James Inscoe, Austin Inscoe and Jerry Lewis III.
It was Joe’s final wish that he could financially assist in defraying medical expenses for a little 3-year-old girl who is soon to be undergoing surgery. The family, in honoring this wish, would ask that memorial tributes be made to the family so that they might provide them to the young girl’s family to fulfill this act of kindness.
A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held on May 3 at 11 a.m. at Fallowfield United Methodist Church, 3993 Leech Road, Atlantic.
Cremation has been selected as disposition.
