SANDY LAKE —
Russell R. Snyder of Creek Road, Sandy Lake (New Vernon Township), passed away at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Meadville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center following a one-year illness. He was 74.
Russell was born in Jackson Center on Oct. 4, 1938, a son of the late Thomas Ralph and Emma B. Saxon Snyder.
He was a 1956 graduate of Lakeview High School. He had been employed by Damascus Tube Co., Greenville, for 31 years, having retired in 2000. For more than 54 years he had been a substitute bus driver transporting students in the Lakeview and Commodore Perry school districts.
He was a member of New Vernon Grange 608 and Mercer County Pomona Grange 25.
Through the years he had actively participated in the Mercer County Grange Fair. Russell was a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, New Vernon Township, and had served with the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963. He was an avid follower and supporter of sports for both Lakeview and Commodore Perry school district.
He is survived by a brother, Elmer Rex Snyder of Conneaut Lake; a sister, Elizabeth Albert of Casper, Wyo.; nine nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Snyder; and a sister, Jean Snyder.
Friends may call at Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 3223 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville, on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and may share memories and condolences online at rlsfh.com.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Susan Hoover, pastor of the Methodist United In Faith, officiating.
The committal service with military honors accorded will follow at Hadley Cemetery.
