Dorothy Torres, 90, formerly of Kenneth Ave., Somerset, Mass., passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013, in Conneautville.
She was the widow of Antone Torres, to whom she was married for 45 years. Born in Fall River, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Peter and Nora Rego Mello.
Along with her son, she ran the former North Swansea Food Store before they moved to Pennsylvania 15 years ago. Dorothy became an avid supporter of the Linesville Lions sports teams when her grandsons were participating and continued that support after their playing days. Even after she became a double amputee, she rarely missed a game and was honored for her support by being named an honorary cheerleader.
She was the beloved mother of Steven Torres and his wife, Linda, of Meadville; loving grandmother of Jason and Matthew Torres; sister of Inez Mello of New Bedford, Mass., and the late Raymond and Peter Mello; aunt of Nancy Lewin, Debra Gwen Mello and Jill Zdraveski; and godmother of Jonathan Nogueira, Randolph Morgan, Kelsey and Kacie Lewin.
Special thanks to the staff of Rolling Fields who cared for her these past five years.
Calling hours will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford St., Fall River.
The funeral will be Saturday at 8 a.m. at the funeral home, with her funeral Mass to follow in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Fall River, at 9 a.m.
