LINESVILLE — Gerald (Jerry) A. Mortensen Sr., 75, died on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, after an extended illness.

He was born on Nov. 22, 1938, in Parma, Ohio, a son of Frances (Knapp) and Leo Mortensen. On Jan. 8, 1959, he married Janet Kapis.

Jerry served in the United States Army, having served in Korea. He was a truck driver for the Teamsters out of Cleveland. Jerry enjoyed reading and loved to tinker with anything mechanical.  He was a member of the Linesville Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Leo Mortensen; and a sister, Marge Buyas. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Janet Mortensen of Linesville; two daughters, Kathy A. (Ted) Litwiler of Andover, Ohio, and Teri A. (Denny) Kovanitz of Parma, Ohio; three sons, Gerald A. (Skip) Mortensen Jr. of Wooster, Ohio, Richard A. Mortensen of Andover, Ohio, and Jeffrey S. (Deanna) Mortensen of Enterprise, Ala.; a sister, Virginia Pleveich of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, William (Rita) Mortensen of Brook Park, Ohio, and Robert Mortensen of Oregon; 14 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

No public services will be held. Burial of cremated remains will be in St. Philip Cemetery in Linesville.
