William (Bill) Allen Buttray, 53, of Meadville, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014, at his residence. He was born April 16, 1960, in Meadville, a son of Karl D. Buttray and Pauline D. Slayton.
He had attended Meadville Area High School and Crawford County Vocational School.
William had been a self-employed independent contractor working for Robert Rickert, Dan Hoke, Gary Wagner, Ken Scott and Schultz Heavy Equipment Transport.
He enjoyed raising fish, woodworking, gardening and loved taking time to help others.
William was a jack of all trades with an interest in many different things.
He is survived by his father, Karl D. Buttray Sr. of Meadville; two sons, Bryen and Kevin Buttray; two sisters, Karla D. Buttray of Meadville and NancyJo Mattocks of Meadville; a brother, Karl D. Buttray Jr. and his wife, Laura, of Meadville; a stepsister, Crystal Schaefer and her husband, Kerry, of Linesville; three stepbrothers, Jeffery Smith and his wife, Mary, of Linesville, Michael Smith of Meadville, and Douglas Smith and his wife, Karen, of Conneaut Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
William was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline D. Johnston; a nephew, Roman James Buttray; his stepmother, Mary Etta Buttray; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Buttray Sr.; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Family and friends are welcome to call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 544 Chestnut St., Meadville. The funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Roger Smith of First Christian Church officiating.
