SANDY LAKE —
John L. Kabana, Cranberry Road, Sandy Lake (Deer Creek Township), passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family late Saturday afternoon on March 8, 2014. He was 80.
John was born in Sewickley on April 5, 1933, a son of the late Alexander and Dorothy (McClellan) Kabana. On June 19, 1954, he married the former Mary Thompson, who survives.
He was a steelworker having retired from LTV Steel Corp., Aliquippa. He was a member of Emmanuel Christian Church, Stoneboro, the Coraopolis Lodge 674, Free and Accepted Masons. He also proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict, having enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy.
Throughout the years, John enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife, both domestically and internationally.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by two sons, Dana Kabana and his wife, Rose M., of Coraopolis, and John L. Kabana Jr. and his fiancée, Lee Ann, of Roanoke, Va.; a daughter, Denise Kabana Day and her husband, Eric, of Hermitage; a sister, Gloria Kabana of Coroapolis; and seven grandchildren, Christopher Kabana of Chicago, Ill., Alyssa Kabana of Freedom, Athena Kabana of Oakdale, Dylan Kabana of Moon Township, Jeff Blodgett of Fayetteville, Ga., Phillip Blodgett of Hermitage and Mary Blodgett of Hermitage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Paul Kabana.
A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Christian Church, 4495 Greenville-Sandy Lake Road, Stoneboro, with the Rev. Timothy Clark, pastor of Emmanuel Christian Church, officiating.
Inurnment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Moon Township. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service in the fellowship hall.
Arrangements are with Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 3223 Perry Highway, Sheakleyville.
The family has suggested that memorial tributes may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
