Joseph Anderson, 87, formerly of Riceville, N.Y., died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community in Meadville.
Born in East Fairfield Township on Dec. 29, 1925, he was the son of Ray C. and Nelling Shilling Anderson Sr.
After graduating high school, he worked at the former Keystone Ordnance Works until being drafted by the U.S. Army during World War II. After returning from the war, he attended Penn State University, graduating as a chemical engineer. He then began working for Spencer Kellogg, located in Ohio, and eventually moved to Buffalo, N.Y., working for Textron, retiring in 1985.
He was an avid Penn State fan and he loved to golf.
Survivors include a sister, Bettee Jane George of Castle Rock, Colo.; nieces and nephews Gary Anderson and his wife, Mary Jo, Kimberly McCartney and her husband, Kevin, and Ray J. Anderson and his wife, Jody, all of Cochranton, Ben George and his wife, Alice, of Loveland, Colo., Ann Belfrage of Colorado, Martha George of California, and Marilyn Watson of Conneaut Lake; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dr. John Anderson and Ray C. Anderson Jr.
Friends will be received at Dickson Family Funeral Home Inc., 123 S. Franklin St., Cochranton, on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 1 p.m. The Rev. Greg Spencer of Cochranton United Methodist Church will officiate.
Internment will be in Cochranton Cemetery.
