Robert C. Irwin

MEADVILLE — Robert C. Irwin passed away in his sleep as a result of a house fire on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at his home in Meadville. Although his passing was sudden, he is with his beautiful wife, Patsy, and his Savior, Jesus Christ.

He loved God with his whole life, his wife more than anything else and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren closely behind. He would do anything for anyone, especially family, but was vocal about his beliefs and stood proud in the man that he was. The legacy that he has left has changed so many lives already, and will continue through every one he touched. He was a very hard worker, and instilled that work ethic in his children. He went after his ambitions with a fervor and drive that was all his own. He brought light into every crisis, every bad situation and every dark day. When it was raining out, he sang more; when something was wrong, he whistled louder. His smile was contagious and always present. He went to bed smiling, and woke up with an even bigger smile. We will always hold everything he meant to us in our hearts for the rest of our lives, and strive to use every lesson he taught, every piece of advice he gave us and even the things that he didn’t say, that were so evident in his life.

Bob was born on Dec. 23, 1931, in Meadville. His parents were James Elwood and Goldie Irwin (both deceased). Siblings are Dorothy Kasemer (deceased), Ruth Lake, Reba Stallard (deceased) and Audrey Adams. He was married on May 28, 1955, to the love if his life, Patsy C. Irwin (deceased on April 29, 2013).

He loved his country and served from 1948 to 1952 in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Naples, Italy, for most of the time he was enlisted. After separation from the Navy, he worked at Talon in Meadville for many years.

His love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was evident in the example he left for his family: his son, Rob Irwin and wife, Cindy Irwin; daughter, Rhonda Steinman and her husband, Fred Steinman; son, Randi Irwin and his wife, Michelle Irwin; and son, Roy Irwin and his wife, Lori Irwin.

He was equally an example for his grandchildren, Justin Irwin and his wife, Staci, Nathan Irwin and his wife, Beth, Ryan Irwin and his wife, Brooke, Kaitlyn Irwin, Cassie Porter and her husband, Ryan, Gavilan Steinman and his wife, Caroline, Chase Steinman, Taylor Irwin and Nathan Irwin. And although his great-grandchildren are young, he was a great part of their lives as well; Brenden Manchester and Parker Irwin, Jax and Caroline Irwin, Olivia and Brielle Porter, and Eden Irwin.

After his wife’s passing, he dedicated himself to working with others in the Alzheimer’s groups, teaching them what to expect and how to deal with the grieving process. He spoke to groups, gave out his number and wanted to help others deal with the steps he’d just been through. He was giving of himself throughout his entire life, and loved without reserve. We will miss him desperately, Dad, Pop, Pappa and friend. Our lives are greater because of you! And we thank God for sharing you with us!

A private memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Active Aging, Meadville Senior Center, 1034 Park Ave., Meadville, Pa. 16335.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, Pa. 16335. Please sign Bob’s guestbook at hatheway-tedesco.com.
