Grace Victoria (Vick) Gore

MEADVILLE — Grace Victoria (Vick) Gore of Meadville was born Dec. 21, 1947, and passed away on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013.

Grace was the eldest daughter of Frank R. Gore and Wilma McDaniel Gore.

She was of the Catholic faith. In her earlier years she had been married to Joseph McCaffrey and Roman Gilson.

She is survived by her mother, Wilma Gore Sandoval of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and dearly held and loved companion, Patrick (Doc) Daugherty of Meadville. She is also survived by three daughters, Mary Ruck of Denver, Rachel Gilson of Denver and Katherine Ann Gilson of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by three adored grandchildren, Julian of Denver, Roman of Denver and special granddaughter, Rose Victoria Alvarez of Oklahoma City. In addition, she is survived by her two sisters, Alicia L. Bishop Lamb (Thom) of Oklahoma City and Frances R. Smith (John Anselmo) of Meadville; stepbrother, Sandy J. Sandoval of Los Angeles, and stepsister, Angeline (Eddie) Herrera of Tucson, Ariz. She is also survived by two nephews, Gregory T. Smith (Jessica) of Meadville and Lionel V. Lopez (Beth) of Princeton, Texas; and Nicole Lamb Wise (Russell) of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by a great-nephew, Brandon; and three great-nieces, Jessica, Janay and Jalissa.

She was predeceased by her father, Frank R. Gore; stepfather, Adolph M. Sandoval; stepsister, Carla Dale Lopez; grandparents; and additional family and friends who are welcoming her home now.

Ancient Egyptians believed that upon death they would be asked two questions and their answers would determine whether they could continue their journey in the afterlife. The first question was, “Did you bring joy?” The second was, “Did you find joy?” — Leo Buscaglia.

Grace certainly did bring joy and found joy. She was imaginative and creative and had great flair. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 Auxiliary, an accomplished artist, gourmet cook, antique collector and avid science fiction fan. She loved animals, art and music. She lived in numerous places in her life including Meadville, Tucson, Seattle, New Orleans, and Milwaukee, Wis., but she always considered Meadville as home.

How many loved your moments of glad grace, and loved your beauty with love false or true, but one man loved the pilgrim soul in you, and loved the sorrows of your changing face — Yeats.

Grace was loved and held dear in the hearts of all who loved her, where her memory will always remain. We acknowledged her faults but loved her good qualities; we loved her sensitive and gentle soul and are sending our prayers for her to continue her journey.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of family.

Interment will take place in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to Anna Shelter for Animals, 1555 E. 10th St., Erie, Pa. 16511.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
