MEADVILLE — John E. Southall, 61, of 311 Asbury Manor E., Meadville, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Meadville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.

John was born in Union City on April 30, 1952, a son of the late Roy and Bethania Short Southall. On Dec. 22, 1997, John married Sheryl A. Southall; she survives.

Over the years John had been employed as a maintenance man at the Downtown Mall, by Channellock and by the former Wilson’s Lumber. In his earlier years he and his wife, Sheryl, established and operated the former People’s Janitorial Service. A Vietnam veteran, John joined the U.S. Army on April 26, 1971, and served his country until his honorable discharge on March 13, 1973. During his service time, he had attained the rank of specialist fourth class.

An outdoorsman, John enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be remembered as a people person.

In addition to his wife, Sheryl, of 15 years, John is survived by three children, Kerk Wolfe of Sunbury, Sherrelle Wolfe and her wife, Michelle, of Kingston, N.Y., and Sonya Steiner of Meadville; five grandchildren, Jacob Wood, Austyn Webb, Corey Schol, Regina Steiner and Amy Steiner; a sister, Becky Dempsey and her husband, Gene, of Ohio; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Rex Southall; and a sister, Diane Southall.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
