Twila Jean Brooks

MEADVILLE — After a courageous battle with several extended illnesses, Twila Jean Brooks, 81, of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, passed away on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Meadville Medical Center.

Twila was born at home in Saegertown on Oct. 29, 1932, a daughter of the late Marion A. and Dorothy M. Flickinger Peters.

In 1983, Twila married Thomas W. Brooks; he preceded her in death on April 9, 2008.

Twila was a 1950 graduate of Saegertown High School. In 1978 she retired from Crawford Central School District where she held various secretarial positions. Although she spent most of her time at Meadville High School, she also worked at Second District School. Following her retirement, she moved to Port St. Lucie, Fla.,, where she resided until her return to Meadville in 1999.

Twila was a member of St. Paul’s Reformed Church in Meadville. She enjoyed sewing and making crafts, especially ceramics, but what she loved most in life was spending time with her family.

Twila is survived by four children, Darla Jean King and her husband, Kim, Douglas Peter Mauri, Reid A. Mauri and his wife, Mary Lynn, and Cheryl Lynn Ferry and her husband, Richard, all of Meadville; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Minman and her husband, Brad, Alan Ferry and his fiancée, Nicole Bagnardi, Joel King, Nicole Mauri, Sarah Mauri, Christina Mauri and Adrienne Mauri; two great-grandchildren, Auburn Ferry and Nathan Ferry; a brother, Daniel Peters and his wife, Christine, of Townville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Tom, Twila was preceded in death by an infant sister; two brothers, Robert and Kenneth Peters; and the father of her children, Robert Mauri.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, with Pastor Philip Torre of First Assembly of God and the Rev. Sam Marchetta, chaplain of Wesbury, officiating.

Twila will be laid to rest in Venango Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Benevolent Fund of Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Ave., or St. Paul’s Reformed Church, 1070 Park Ave., both in Meadville, Pa. 16335.
