NEW LEBANON — Elizabeth H. (Betty) George, 94, a long-time resident of New Lebanon borough, Sandy Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at 8 a.m. at DuBois Nursing Home.

She was born Dec. 18, 1918, to Bernard and Goldy Eichley Schroeder in Pittsburgh.

She attended Carrick High School, Pittsburgh, and retired from Polk State School and Hospital after 16 years of service.

She was Protestant by faith and was a member of the New Lebanon Community Church and Ladies Aid.

A member of Princess Rebekah Lodge 442, Sandy Lake, she served as noble grand from 1984-85. She was also a long-time member of the New Lebanon Grange.

Betty was a loving individual who created a warm and inviting home for all who graced her doorstep. She had a passion for canning the harvest from her and her husband’s garden, providing family and friends with her goods.

Her loving husband, William H. (Bill) George of 72 years, preceded her in death Jan. 23, 2008.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert E. George; and a grandson, Jeffrey George.

Surviving are a son, William T. George, Meadville; two daughters, Dorothy (Dot) Hedglin and her husband, Fritz, of DuBois, and Marlene Tenon of Meadville; a daughter-in-law, Carol Rose Hassinger of Conneautville; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Lebanon Community Church, 4166 Mercer St., Sandy Lake, Pa. 16145; or DuBois Nursing Home, 212 S. Eighth St., DuBois, Pa. 15801.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Scott A. Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Richard C. Steinlechner, pastor of New Lebanon Community Church, officiating

Interment will be in New Lebanon Cemetery, Mill Creek Township.
