SAEGERTOWN — Dr. William (Bill) James Morris, 65, of 16315 S. Mosiertown Road, Saegertown, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at home.

Bill was born in Pittsburgh on Aug. 30, 1948, a son of Thelma Huddart Morris and the late William W. Morris. William married Delma (Dolly) Lutz; she survives.

Following his 1966 graduation from the former Dormont High School, Pittsburgh, Bill enrolled in Bucknell University, Lewisburg, where in 1970, he earned his bachelor of science degree in chemistry. He went on to graduate as a doctor of medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. While receiving his formal education, Bill was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and one year over Christmas break at Bucknell University, he made the trip of a lifetime to Russia over the new year. In July 1981 he opened his practice in Meadville, where for the next 27 years, he worked as a successful obstetrician/gynecologist. After his retirement in 2008, Dr. Morris continued working at Meadville Community Health Center and Conneaut Valley Health Center. He had also worked at Greenfield Counseling Inc. in Meadville. Dr. Morris was very proud of the many babies he delivered throughout his career, each one bringing delight and gratification.

A skilled chess player, he participated in online as well as postal/correspondence chess, playing in many tournaments. He was a music enthusiast, listening to all types of music from 1970s rock to classical. He was an avid reader, especially enjoying classics, science fiction and history books. He was also a huge movie and history buff with a special interest in the Civil War.

In addition to his wife, Dolly, Dr. Morris is survived by four children, William B. Morris of Charlotte, N.C., Amelia Morris and her husband, Matthew Bookman, of Los Angeles, Calif., Margaret Bowman and her husband, Cory, of Chesapeake, Va., and Paul Morris of Colorado; two grandchildren due to be born in January and April 2014; his mother, Thelma Morris of Mt.
