Thomas L. McCauley

JAMESTOWN — Thomas L. McCauley, 83, of 711 Main St., Jamestown, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at 9:12 a.m. at White-Cliff Nursing Home, Greenville, Mercer County.

He was born Sept. 25, 1929, in Oil City, Venango County, a son of Clarence McCauley and Sarah Northcote McCauley. He married Josephine (Josey) M. Brown on Nov. 13, 1949; she survives.

Thomas served as an airman second class in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a toolmaker at Channellock in Meadville, retiring after 23 years. He previously owned and operated McCauley’s Beer Distributor in Greenville for seven years and worked at GATX in Saegertown for seven years.

He attended North Shenango Presbyterian Church. He loved his grandchildren and his dog, Sophie. He had a great sense of humor. He built four homes and restored two century homes, enjoyed woodworking and was a former member of the Kickers western style square dancing group of Conneaut Lake.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Josephine (Josey) M. McCauley at home; two sons, Thomas L. McCauley Jr. and his companion, Andrew Duray, of Cleveland, and David M. McCauley and his wife, Donna, of Espyville; three daughters, Valerie McCauley of Lexington, S.C., Susan R. VanZanten and her husband, Dr. Henry VanZanten, of Sharpsville, and Wendy John of Sharon; two sisters, Janice Fout of Beaver Creek, Ohio, and Barbara Stevens and her husband, Herman Lynn, of Huron, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Randall Funeral Home, 416 Liberty St., Jamestown.

The religious service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with military honors by Jamestown Honor Guard.

Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Jamestown.
