Clarence Eugene (Gene) Gillette

LINESVILLE — Clarence Eugene (Gene) Gillette, 85, of Linesville, passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Born Nov. 28, 1927, in Linesville, he was the son of Howard and Edith Merry Gillette. He married Zola Schlosser on Sept. 30, 1951, in Mosiertown.

Gene graduated from Linesville High School in 1945. He served our country in the U.S. Army from February 1946 until he was honorably discharged in August 1947.

For 17 years, Gene was former owner of Lakeside Lumber in Linesville. He was a purchasing agent for Zehrco Plastics in Ashtabula, Ohio, for 15 years and retired in 1992.

Gene was a member of Linesville First Baptist Church where he was a past trustee and deacon. He was a charter member of the Linesville Rotary and was past president. He was a 50-year member of the State Police of Crawford and Erie Counties. Gene was co-founder and past president of the Pal-Fund Association in Linesville. He was a former member of the Crawford County Tourist Association and the Linesville Chamber of Commerce.

Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Zola Gillette; two sons, David P. Gillette and his wife, Denise, of Linesville, and Bruce D. Gillette of Linesville; three grandchildren, Season Hintz and her husband, Wesley, of Columbia, S.C., Chad Gillette and his wife, Candice, of Linesville and Megan Mead and her husband, Rob, of Linesville; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marian Paul and her husband, Ralph, of Canton, Ill., and Mildred Hunt of West Sunbury; a brother, Francis Gillette of Linesville; two sisters-in-law, Sally A. Gillette and Florence Gillette, both of Linesville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Lloyd Gillette; a brother-in-law, Donald Hunt; and a sister-in-law, Sarah Gillette.

Calling hours are Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Linesville First Baptist Church, 6114 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.

The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. Monday at the church, with Pastor Art Barnes officiating.

Burial will be private in Linesville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Meadville, Pa. 16335; or Linesville First Baptist Church, PO Box 387, Linesville, Pa. 16424.

Arrangements are under the direction of Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.
