MEADVILLE — Cecelia Franczak (nee Sloncka) of Meadville passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014, after an extended illness, at Wesbury United Retirement Community, Meadville. She was 91 years old.

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 25, 1922, the daughter of Michael and Zophia Slonczka. She was married to John J. Franczak for 40 years, until his passing in May of 1984.

Prior to moving to Meadville, at the age of 76, she lived in Parma and Parma Heights, Ohio, where she was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and St. John Bosco Catholic Church.

While playing her favorite pastime, pinochle, at the Meadville Active Aging Center, Cecelia met James V. Costello and they became devoted companions until his passing in September of 2009.

She was a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church of Meadville, the Fifty-Five Club, the Senior Citizen Card Club and the Hunter’s Ridge Lunch Bunch.

Also passing away before her were brothers and sisters-in law, Floyd and Marian Stark, and Roman and Henrietta Stark; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Lena and Joe Piktel, and Caroline and Adam Salamon; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lottie and Stanley Chudzinski; and her brothers-in-law, Stanley Malik and Peter Salamon. Passing away before Cecelia also were her nephews, Steven and Robert Piktel; her niece, Janice Salamon; and her grandnephews, Greggory Piktel and Michael Paul Salamon.

Mrs. Franczak is survived by her daughters, Adele Hatheway and Eileen (Keith) Kidner; grandchildren, Edward J. (Debbie) Hatheway, Esq., Holly Passmore, Helen (Casey) Devine and Ian Kidner; great grandchildren, Christopher J. White and Ryan P. Passmore; her sister, Julia Malik; sister-in-law and brother–in-law, Stanley and Sophie Franczak; and sister-in-law, Mary Salamon; as well as many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.

Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brookpark, Ohio, in March — a memorial committal service will be held there.

Cecelia Franczak’s family would like to thank the dedicated and compassionated staff members at Juniper Village of Meadville and the Wesbury community for the care provided to Cecelia and her family during her illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Brigid Catholic Church, 383 Arch St.; Juniper Village, 455 Chestnut St.; Wesbury United Retirement Community, 31 N. Park Ave.; or the Hospice of Crawford County, Pine Street, all of Meadville, Pa. 16335.
