MEADVILLE — Dr. Matilda Jane Morris, D.O., 92, of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, Meadville, formerly of Hermitage, went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, Jan. 10, 2014, at 9:15.

She was born in New Castle on April 20, 1921, a daughter of George D. Morris and Mary Ethel Wilson Morris.

Matilda retired after more than 60 years in the Shenango Valley as an ob/gyn.

She was a graduate of New Castle High School in 1939 and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Muskingham College of Medicine.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Sharon and sang in the choir.

She was a member of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, was the 1973 Woman of the Year in Sharon for ABWA (American Business Women’s Association). She served in the medical missions in both Bolivia and Peru.

She was a woman of strong faith in both her personal and professional life.

She traveled the world and USA extensively.

Survivors include three nieces, Laurel Hunt of Midland, Texas, Claudia Gray of Grove City and Melinda Holfelder of New Wilmington; two great-nieces, Annie Laurie Holfelder of New Wilmington and Sarah Wildes of Midland; a great-nephew, Joshua Hunt of Chicago, Ill.; and three great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, John W. Morris.

Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. William Stone Jr., pastor of Neshannock Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Oak Park Cemetery, New Castle.
