Warren (Steve) Bruce Stevenson

MEADVILLE — Warren (Steve) Bruce Stevenson passed away peacefully at his home in Meadville on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at the age of 77.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., to Carl and Helen Stevenson.

He was married to Janice Williams of West Homestead in 1958.

After graduating from Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, Calif., he entered the U.S. Air Force and worked as an early warning operator. He was a Korean War veteran, serving time in Japan and at Hamilton Air Force Base just north of San Francisco.

In high school, he excelled in baseball and traveled around the western states playing for the Air Force.

Warren and Janice married just before his discharge and they moved to Southern California. They had three children and loved camping in the Sierra Nevada mountains and along the coast and beaches of California.

He attended Fullerton College in Los Angeles, as well as Fresno City College and Fresno State University in Fresno, Calif.

After college, he worked as a designer of homes and commercial buildings. He was a member of The American Institute of Building Design. After many years as a building designer, he returned to college to pursue a career in business. He became a general manager for branch operations with Terminix International in Salinas, Fresno and Sacramento, Calif.; Portland, Ore.; and Seattle, Wash.

After 18 years, he and Janice retired to the countryside of Cambridge Springs.

His passion was Christian music, appearing as a soloist in churches around Cambridge Springs; Lake Oswego, Ore.; and Fresno, Calif., and most recently Christ Evangelical Free Church of Saegertown. While there, he was a member, elder and board vice chairman. He was instrumental in forming the men’s ministry group known as STORM. He has also appeared in community theater productions.

He was very proud of his friends at Cambridge Springs Senior Center where he was on the Senior Center Council and the Active Aging Advisory Board of Crawford County.

In addition to his wife, Janice, Warren is survived by their children Linda (Stevenson) Dodge of Meadville; Gregory Stevenson and his wife, Elizabeth, of Sonoma, Calif.; and Diane (Stevenson) Monsen and her husband, Justin, of Star, Idaho. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Wayne, Michael and Timothy Evett, Logan and Ellie Monsen, and Lucas, Benjamin and Hannah Stevenson; and one great-granddaughter, Kyla Shae Evett.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Crawford County, especially to Lori Harris who was Warren’s angel, for the great care and comfort that was given to him.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Evangelical Free Church, 19682 Hill Road, Saegertown, Pa. 16433.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
