Ora Belle Jenkin-Hallstead

ERIE — Beloved mother and grandmother, Ora Belle Jenkin-Hallstead, 95, of Harborcreek Township, Erie County, and resident of Brevillier Village (Ball Pavillion), went to be with her Savior and Lord, Sunday night, June 30, 2013, while surrounded by her children. During her stay at the Ball Pavillion, several residents visited with her and enjoyed prayer times and reading the Bible together.

She was born Feb. 16, 1918, and was the youngest of eight children to Peter and Ora Corrigan.

Ora Belle had been a resident of the Erie County area for a great portion of the latter part of her life. She and her husband, James Jenkin, raised their children in Meadville. She was a former charter member of the First Assembly of God Church in Meadville, where she and a handful of worshippers established the church. She raised her children to love the Lord and to serve Him faithfully. She worked in several vocations while in the Meadville area, mostly in the restaurant business. She retired from Doctor’s Osteopathic Hospital, Erie, in the housekeeping department on April 4, 1980.

Ora Belle enjoyed sewing and needle work. She was well known for the many dolls and quilts that she made for family and friends. She also enjoyed writing short stories and penned many poems.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James H. Jenkin, and second husband, Wayne Hallstead; and seven brothers and sisters, Austin Corrigan, John Corrigan, Clyde Corrigan, Peter Corrigan, Sarah Phillips, Mary Wolford and Nora McClelland.

She is survived by her five children, Jim H. Jenkin and wife, Diane, of Brandon, Fla., Dawn Keith and husband, Daniel, of Varnville, S.C., Karen Whippo and husband, David, of Erie, Paul Jenkin and wife, Nancy, of Cambridge Springs, and Daniel Jenkin of Fairview. She is also survived by 99 grandchildren collectively — 24 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake Street, North East, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

The memorial service is to be held at the same location on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Interment will be at Grahamville Cemetery.

Services will be presided over by two of her sons, the Rev. Jim H. Jenkin and the Rev. Daniel D. Jenkin, and her grandson, the Rev. Troy Keith.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Brevillier Village for the wonderful support, love and care that they gave to their mother.
