Harriet L. Feltenberger Palka, 84, of Market Street, Meadville, left us from her residence Sunday morning, Dec. 5, 2010, to be with our Lord.
Born May 30, 1926, in West Mead Township, she was a daughter of Alfred J. and Gertrude E. Yocum Joliet. She married Alfred E. Feltenberger, who preceded her in death; she then married Paul Palka and he also preceded her in death.
She attended Meadville schools and, with little education, but with a lot of hard work and perseverance, she rose to the top and owned and operated Harriet’s Lunch on Arch Street for 10 years. After it’s closing she owned and operated Harriet’s News Room on Willow Street until the building was to be torn down. She then sold the business, which is now located on Park Avenue. At age 50, Harriet decided to try housekeeping and worked for many people at Holland Towers and in the Meadville and Saegertown areas. Harriet also helped to raise her first granddaughter, Tammy, who lived with her for eight years and had a very special bond. Harriet was a lover of life and especially loved to sing and dance and loved her dog, Sadie. Harriet was there to help, whether it was her children, grandchildren, friends or someone she just met.
