MEADVILLE — Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Anna W. Maruska, 89, of Meadville passed peacefully Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013.

Anna began as a Christmas Eve baby in 1923, the daughter of John and Julia Elko Phillips of Vestaburg.

Anna leaves behind her loving husband, partner and friend of 67 years, Michael Maruska Sr.; and her children, Anna Butters, Michael Maruska Jr., Peter J. (Melissa) Maruska, Mary Maruska, Paul T. (Nancy) Maruska and Mark J. Maruska, whom she graciously raised in Carmichaels; one brother, Julius Phillips of Vestaburg; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She laid to rest five brothers, Michael, John, William, Andrew and George; two sisters, Mary Semosky and Margaret Stefan; and a son-in-law, Arthur C. Butters.

Devoted, dedicated, loving mother and homemaker, Ann was known for her traditional family meals and homemade goodies of blackberry pies and kolache.

She had strong spiritual beliefs and a commitment to the Byzantine Catholic faith.

In her later years, she was a resident of Juniper Village and Wesbury Retirement Community in Meadville.

Thank you to those who provided care, love and friendship to Mom Maruska throughout her living days.
