James M. Blakely Sr., 76, of 1485 North Road, Carlton, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at his residence, following an extended illness.
Born Aug. 15, 1936, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., he was a son of Thorold and Sophie Malski Blakely. He married Sandra Smith on April 23, 1994, and she survives.
He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1958 and was stationed in Japan.
After his service in the Air Force he returned to Pittsburgh and worked for U.S. Air as a sheet metal mechanic and was an active member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union.
He was often seen on the Ohio River boating, floating, fishing and relaxing. He also cherished his children and grandchildren and enjoyed doing things that made them happy. He was a member of Milledgeville Presbyterian Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 19 years, include his children, James Blakely Jr. of Imperial, Kevin Blakely and his wife, Debbie, of Baltimore, John Blakely of Whittier, Calif., and Kathleen Beaulieu and her husband, James, of Erie; stepchildren, Amir Momayez and his wife, Barbara, of Pittsburgh, and Maryam Bopp and her husband, Nathan, of Pittsburgh; a sister, Sandra Targosz and her husband, Robert, of Rome, N.Y.; and grandchildren, Jessica Blakely, Noah and Seth Beaulieu, Ashley Kohl, Mira and Madelyn Momayez and Layla Bopp.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepfather, James Long.
There are no calling hours. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at his residence on June 29 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Brian Ennis of Milledgeville Presbyterian Church officiating. Since Jim was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan, those who attend are asked to wear the black and gold colors.
