MECHANICSVILLE, Va. — Marlene L. Wright, 73, of Mechanicsville, Va. (formerly of Cambridge Springs), went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014.

Marlene was born Oct. 14, 1940, in Corry, the oldest of eight children, to Margaret and Leo R. Higley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Baideme; brother, Carlton Higley; and son, Kevin Shawn Wright I.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John W. Wright II; her children, Kelly Stanfield of Meadville, Kevin Wright of Mechanicsville, and John W. Wright III of Cambridge Springs; a sister, Eloise Cieslak of Union City; and brothers, Robert Higley of Canadohta Lake, Duane Higley of Cambridge Springs, Larry Higley of Spartansburg, and David Higley of Cambridge Springs. She was a proud and doting grandmother of eight grandchildren, Lewis Stanfield, Daniel Stanfield, Kimberly McAfoose, Nicole Jackson, Mackenzie Wright, Tyler Wright, Brett Wright and Hannah Mae Wright. Mrs. Wright was also a great-grandmother to Connor McAfoose, David Kelley, Alexander Kelley and Nicolas Kelley. In addition to her immediate family, she will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and anyone who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Wright was married in Westfield, N.Y., on Aug. 12, 1961, and recently celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary in 2011, where she got the chance to catch up and visit with family members and friends she had not seen in years. Mrs. Wright loved to scrapbook, take pictures of loved ones, and listen to her favorite music. She enjoyed attending barn dances with her mother as well as visiting with her siblings many times, taking turns making a day of driving to each other’s homes on a Saturday or Sunday. She taught us how to love with all our hearts, fight with all our spirit, laugh often, and live simply.

The funeral will be given by Pastor Dave Karpenko of New Life Baptist Church in Corry and will be held at Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, on Friday at 11 a.m. To sign the register book or send condolences, please visit
