Daniel W. Piccuta

NEW WILMINGTON — Daniel W. Piccuta, 87, of 150 Waugh Ave., Apt. 2203, New Wilmington, formerly of 2212 N. Mercer St., and 48 Valhalla Drive, both of New Castle, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Jameson Memorial Hospital, New Castle.

Daniel was born in New Castle, Sept. 23, 1926, a son of the late Michael and Maria Augustine Piccuta. On Dec. 27, 1951, Daniel married Jennie Fusco; she survives.

An active member of St. Camillus Roman Catholic Church, Daniel had served as an Eucharistic minister for several years and as an altar server for funeral Masses.

In 1988 Daniel formed Piccuta Financial Services and continued his investment practice until his retirement in 1998. He previously had been employed as a registered licensed representative for the former IDS (Investors Diversified Services) later known as Ameriprise, until 1988 after 28 years of service. In the late 1940s Daniel started, owned and operated the former Dew Drop Inn, New Castle. Following his graduation from New Castle High School in 1945, Daniel went on to serve his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. During this time he was promoted to the rank of technical sergeant and was stationed in the Tokyo office of Gen. Douglas McArthur.

Daniel was a member of the New Castle Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 343 and the Knights of Columbus, Council 512. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Jennie, not only in the United States, but together they also made many trips overseas to Europe and China. Of all his wonderful qualities, Daniel will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who looked forward to visiting and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Jennie of 62 years, Daniel is survived by two sons, Daniel W. Piccuta II and his wife, Christina, of Kona, Hawaii, and David J. Piccuta and his wife, Marsha, of Duncan, S.C.; four daughters, Janice M. Boazzo and her husband, Joseph, of Cortland, Ohio, Joyce A. Markwell and her husband, Mark, of Greensboro, N.C., Jocelyn M. Mizner and her husband, Stephen, of Meadville, and Jacqueline A. In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Lee and Albert Piccuta.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Don DeCarbo Funeral Home, 3000 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

The funeral procession will leave Don DeCarbo Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Camillus Church, 314 W. Englewood Ave., New Castle, with the Rev. Philip Farrell officiating.
