Sharon Carole Waid Kovac

MESA, Ariz. — Sharon Carole Waid Kovac of Mesa, Ariz. and formerly of Meadville and Conneaut Lake, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 in Mesa.

She is the daughter of Preston Beatty (Jack) Waid and Virginia Arthurs Waid. She married Russell A. Kovac and celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in December 2013.

She graduated from Meadville Area High School, the first graduating class in the “new” building.

She was a member of Sweet Adelines as she loved to sing, and she was part of many groups and choruses over the years, from grade school on.

She accepted Jesus as her Savior in 1971. She currently attended First Baptist Church of Tempe, Ariz., and was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Conneaut Lake, serving many areas, among them the Worship and Missions Committees. She was a very active supporter of many missionaries and missions programs. Sending cards and notes of encouragement, and praying were her personal ministries.

She worked for David Glenn, serving as secretary in his private practice. Later, she worked at the Crawford County Courthouse, and for FEMA on a number of occasions, notably after the 1985 tornados.

She enjoyed her assignments as a secret shopper for a private investigator for a number of years.

She attended the Tempe Citizens Police Academy and appreciated the opportunity to ride along, and meeting the officer instructors, making some life-long friends.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Russell, of Mesa, Ariz.; her daughter, Pamela Baumbach and her husband, Paul Baumbach, of Orlando, Fla.; a son, Jeffery Kovac and his wife, Karen Brumagin Kovac, of Glacierview, Alaska; precious granddaughters, Susann Carole Kovac of Erie, and Jennifer Ann and Tyler Bostick of Hill Air Force Base, Utah. Her first great-grandchild is expected in March.

She is also further survived by her mother-in-law, Joyce Sorg of Meadville; two sisters, Susan Harrison of Fox Grove and Chris Manross of Kingman, Ariz.; two brothers, John Manross of Chandler, Ariz., and Sean Manross of Lake Forest, Ill.; her brother-in-law, Raymond Kovac and his wife, Ruth Kovac, of Atlantic; and numerous nieces and nephews

Sharon was preceded in death by an infant son, Gerald Wayne Kovac; her father, Jack, and his wife, Ruth Waid; and aunt and uncle Mildred and Robert Gartner; childhood guardians, step-mother, Dorothy Gooden, a sister Joyce Manross, and a brother, Dan Manross

She was a wonderful example of Jesus’ exhortation to extend grace and forgiveness to all. She lived as an example and left us a legacy we will strive to emulate.

A memorial service will be held in Conneaut Lake at a later date.
