MILLCREEK — Robert (Bob) Kenneth Bartlett, age 87, of Millcreek, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013, which is also his mother’s birthday.

He was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, on Dec. 24, 1925; he later learned that this was the very same date upon which his wife’s parents were married. Bob always was a very careful planner!

He was the son of the late Kenneth A. Bartlett and Florence Stewart Bartlett Stafford.

Bob attended Ashtabula Schools and graduated from Academy High School in Erie. He then served in the U.S. Air Force. He had many stories to share about the foreign countries he saw during his tour. When he returned home he attended Gannon University and earned his bachelor’s degree.

He worked for Beck Shoes, General Contractors and Sperry-Univac (later Unysis) where he was a field engineer. After his retirement, Bob was actively involved with the Erie Chapter of the American Red Cross.

He loved meeting and helping people, and his volunteer work took him to many disaster sites around the country. Bob and his wife, Rosalind, loved to travel, and they visited every corner of the U.S. and many places in Canada. They participated in countless elder hostels learning new skills and seeing amazing wildlife and natural beauty. He had a deep passion for music, especially big band and jazz. He and Rosalind had their first date at a dance held at Rainbow Gardens. Bob also loved playing golf. He shared the links with a special group of buddies, including Jack and Jimmie (he loved you guys). He enjoyed watching golf tournaments on TV and visiting Augusta for the Masters Tournament.

Bob joins his beloved wife, Rosalind Nichols Bartlett, who passed away Jan. 9, 2011, whom he married Aug. 18, 1951.

He was brother to Eileen Donnell, Shirley and John Strokes; half brother to Nancy Rush and Connie Hoteling; and stepbrother to Lois Zilhaver and Norma Jean. Additionally, he is survived by his children, Laurie Stephenson of Littleton, Colo., Craig and Mary Bartlett of Fairview, Jane and Carl Burrows of Meadville; his grandchildren, Tanner Stephenson, David Bartlett, Lainey Crawley, Elliot Burrows and Olivia Burrows; great-grandsons, Aiden Bartlett, Gary Schumann and Aaron Burrows; stepgrandchildren, Melvin Burrows, Misty Clepper, Joseph Mando and Gretchen Mando; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St., Erie, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 7 p.m., and may attend services at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Kimberly Saylor officiating.

Burial will be private at a later date.

Bob was grateful to spend his final days at home with his loving son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Mary. He loved and appreciated his hospice team at Asera Care, especially Marian.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1002 Powell Ave., Erie Pa. 16505; the American Red Cross, Erie Chapter, 4961 Pittsburgh Ave., Erie, Pa. 16509; or Asera Care Hospice, 1600 Peninsula Drive, Erie, Pa. 16505.
